FOIA Request Sent to Oneida County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Oneida County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have submitted a request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., for specific records from the Oneida County Election Department.

The requested records pertain to the methods being used by the department to count ballots in the upcoming election. Specifically, we are seeking information on whether these ballots are being counted manually or through some other means. If manual counting is being employed, we have also asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that given our role in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Oneida County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
