FOIA Request to Juneau County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have requested records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., from the Juneau County Election Department. Our request specifically asks for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Therefore, we have asked for these records preferably in electronic format.
The information we seek includes each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation; and all contact information including address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We await a response from the Juneau County Election Department regarding our request.
