Aspirus Health has announced that its cardiac rehabilitation program at Aspirus Keweenaw has been certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification highlights the program's commitment to enhancing patient care standards and improving quality of life.
The cardiac rehabilitation program is designed for individuals with cardiovascular issues such as heart attacks and coronary artery bypass graft surgery, as well as pulmonary problems like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The program includes exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families.
Andrew Meverden, an Exercise Physiologist for Aspirus Health, stated, “Cardiac rehab is here to help patients with heart and lung problems. The program is meant to improve overall quality of life and reduce the chance of future problems including a heart attack or return to the hospital.”
Achieving this accreditation required Aspirus Keweenaw’s cardiac rehabilitation program to undergo a rigorous application process involving extensive documentation of its practices. The AACVPR Program Certification involves peer-review accreditation that evaluates individual programs based on standards set by AACVPR and related professional societies. Each application is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee before certification is granted by the AACVPR Board of Directors.
“For more than a decade, our cardiac rehabilitation program has been dedicated to helping patients achieve optimal health outcomes,” Meverden added. “This certification is a testament to our team’s hard work and commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients.”
The cardiac rehab program also focuses on managing chronic health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, stress reduction, medication use, smoking cessation, and weight loss.
Since 2018, AACVPR has used an outcomes-based process with performance measurements that reflect meaningful results. Certified programs are considered leaders in cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation due to their advanced practices and proven track records in patient care. The certification from AACVPR remains valid for three years.
