The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is set to implement Class II weight restrictions on the majority of highways in Wisconsin starting Thursday, March 6, at 12:01 a.m. These restrictions will apply to highways south of US 8, covering Zones 2 through 5. For the far northern part of the state, designated as Zone 1, these restrictions will begin on Monday, March 10, at the same time.

Class II roads encompass approximately 1,400 miles of state highways that are particularly vulnerable to damage from heavy trucks during the spring thaw when frost exits the ground. Information regarding divisible and non-divisible load permits can be accessed online.

Statewide seasonal road restrictions are scheduled to take effect on Monday, March 10. Local government entities have the authority to impose or lift weight limits on county highways, town roads, and city or village streets based on legal load limits or less.

WisDOT provides an interactive map detailing seasonal weight restrictions for public access. Haulers seeking more information can reach out to WisDOT's Oversize/Overweight Permits Unit by calling (608) 266-7320 or visiting their website dedicated to oversize/overweight permits. Additionally, a recorded message with general information about road restrictions is available at (608) 266-8417.
