Aspirus Health has announced a $31.1 million expansion of Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. The project aims to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and patient experience, highlighting Aspirus' commitment to the growing healthcare needs in the Keweenaw region.
Onsite work for the project is set to commence in June, with a projected completion date of March 2027. Miron Construction Co. Inc. is the general contractor, and HGA Architecture, Inc. is the architect.
The expansion includes a new 28,000 square foot facility and modernization efforts. Services currently in the hospital's 1920s building will move to the new addition, which will feature redesigned inpatient rooms and centralized state-of-the-art imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy services.
Sherry Bunten, Interim President, Michigan Region, stated, “The 1920s building has served us well for over 100 years, but it’s time to take the next step. By relocating all services under one roof, we’re not only modernizing our facility—we’re enhancing the patient experience and positioning ourselves to better meet the healthcare needs of today and tomorrow.”
Aspirus is focused on continuous innovation and transformation of its care models to meet evolving community demands. “This investment is about shaping the future of healthcare in our community,” Bunten added. “By expanding local services and supporting economic growth, we’re building a healthier, stronger future for the Keweenaw.”
