Derrick Van Orden, a representative from Wisconsin, said that his VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, which recently passed the Senate, aims to assist service members and veterans in maintaining homeownership. The announcement was made on the social media platform X.

"Rep. Van Orden's VA Home Loan Program Reform Act has passed the Senate," said Derrick Francis Van Orden, U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. "This bill offers a real solution to help every service member and veteran maintain the American Dream of homeownership. Looking forward to President Trump signing it into law!"

The VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, introduced in Congress in 2024, seeks to modernize the Veterans Affairs (VA) home loan benefit by expanding eligibility and adding consumer protections. According to Military Times, the bill has garnered bipartisan support and is advancing through committee stages. Advocates suggest it could enhance access to homeownership for veterans amid increasing housing costs.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, approximately 80% of veteran households in the United States are homeowners. Since its inception, over 25 million VA home loans have been issued, with 1.5 million veterans and active-duty service members utilizing this benefit in 2023 alone.

A report from the Urban Institute indicates that veterans with access to VA home loan benefits experience foreclosure rates 30–50% lower than non-veterans and those without VA loans. This demonstrates the program’s effectiveness in promoting financial stability for military families.

Van Orden is a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin’s 3rd District and a former Navy SEAL, as described by Ballotpedia. He serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and focuses on issues related to veterans, national security, and rural development within Congress.
