Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital has introduced new measures aimed at improving safety for mothers after childbirth, particularly in managing postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of preventable maternal complications. The hospital’s obstetrics team now uses the Jada System, a device designed to control heavy bleeding after delivery.
According to Dr. Susan Acuna, Obstetrics & Gynecology at Aspirus Rhinelander Clinic – N Shore Drive, “Delivering a baby is a powerful experience, and we want every mom to feel safe, supported, and cared for — even if the unexpected happens. Our team is trained and equipped to act quickly if there’s an emergency, and the Jada System gives us one more way to protect our patients.”
The Jada System works by applying gentle suction inside the uterus to help it contract and stop bleeding. This process is intended to replicate the body’s natural response following childbirth. The technology allows medical staff to manage bleeding within minutes and may reduce the need for invasive procedures or transfers to larger hospitals.
“We’re committed to offering the best possible care,” Dr. Acuna said. “Having the Jada System available is part of that commitment — it helps us provide safer care, closer to home.”
The hospital states that this initiative is part of a broader effort to improve outcomes for mothers in the region. “Being ready for the unexpected is what allows us to give families peace of mind,” said Dr. Acuna. “We’re proud to offer the kind of advanced care that keeps moms safe and healthy — right here in the Northwoods.”
