The U.S. Senate has approved a resolution introduced by Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) that designates July as National Sarcoma Awareness Month. The measure aims to raise public awareness about sarcoma, a type of cancer, and pays tribute to Melissa Locke and other Americans affected by the disease.
“I am pleased that my resolution passed the Senate in honor of Melissa Locke and the countless other Americans who have struggled with this life-threatening disease. I hope we can continue to increase awareness of this complex form of cancer that is diagnosed thousands of times each year,” said Sen. Johnson.
Senator Johnson has held his seat since first winning election in 2010, when he defeated Russ Feingold with 51.9% of the vote to Feingold’s 47%. He secured re-election in 2016 against Feingold again, earning 50.2% to Feingold’s 46.8%. In the most recent election in 2022, Johnson won against Mandela Barnes with 50.4% of the vote compared to Barnes’ 49.4%.
