A year after the COVID-19 pandemic put the Tokyo Olympics on hold, the Summer Games are back and many Wisconsinites look to bring home the gold as part of Team USA.
With 30 Olympians – including two members of the newly crowned Milwaukee Bucks headlining the contingent – the Badger State is well represented in the Land of the Rising Sun, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse) is backing the Wisconsin Olympians and the rest of Team USA 110%.
“Proudly cheering for #TeamUSA as they represent the red, white and blue,” Kind tweeted on July 23. “Good luck to all the athletes as they show their dedication and strength at the #TokyoOlympics!”
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton were a day barely removed from their game 6 triumph over the Phoenix Suns when they reported to Tokyo to join the rest of the USA men’s basketball team, which opened the Games with an uncharacteristic loss.
The U.S. entered the Summer Games with 2,828 total medals between the winter and summer games, including 1,127 gold medals, to its name, The Sporting News reported.
The Americans have added 38 more as of July 29.
