When Peter Bernegger pointed out what he alleges are numerous irregularities in the state’s voter lists to the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC), the guardian of the lists, he was rewarded with a $2,403 fine for his efforts and the complaints were dismissed.
“The system is completely defective,” Bernegger, data analyst for the Wisconsin Center for Election Justice (WCEJ), told The Sconi. “I told them that and they hit me with a fine for filing a frivolous complaint. I’m going to hit them back with a civil rights suit.”
Bernegger said that, among other findings, WCEJ discovered that 4,269 registered voters in Wisconsin were listed as having a non-existent 99999 zip code. He further noted that some of the voters were in the “active” list and did cast ballots.
Other alleged irregularities uncovered by the voter group include the 40,783 ballots of confined voters who presented no photo ID. WCEJ plans to file Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to confirm whether, as the law requires, WEC and clerks sent verification post cards when no photo ID is provided.
The group also found 5,841 voters recorded as casting two ballots, and over 403,000 who moved out of state but are still on the voter rolls.
“We believe they keep the numbers inflated to hide things,” Bernegger said. “To hide markers, to make it more difficult to find the election fraud. Anyone in the private sector would be fired in seconds if they ran a database like WEC does.”
In yet another example, 46,000 of those who registered to vote on Election Day Nov. 3, 2020, and then voted, could not be verified by the Department of Transportation. Yet, the votes still counted, Bernegger said.
“The source of the 46,000 is from the Legislative Audit Bureau of the State of Wisconsin,” Bernegger said. “Their report came out last year, way after the election. And to our knowledge those 46,000 are still on the voter rolls.”
“More than 40 different ways errors can occur with voting lists, and they are all there,” he added.
Bernegger said WCEJ has reported the irregularities to seven sheriffs’ offices in the state.
The Elections Commission did not respond to a request for comment.
Wisconsin has also been the center of controversial election funding by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan. Elections officials accepted millions in “Zuck Bucks” in exchange for following a set of guidelines as part of a get-out-the-vote campaign for the Democratic Party.
