Democratic lawmakers have become their own worst enemy in the eyes of a growing number of republican voters.

"Hispanic voters predict red wave, say Democrats use handouts and rhetoric to appease minorities," Fox News recently said in a tweet Wednesday, referring to recent polling that shows many Hispanic voters are leaning toward supporting Republican candidates after years of primary voting for Democrats.

According to a recent New York Times-Siena College poll, the two parties are now statistically tied on the generic congressional ballot, representing a 47-point swing from the 2018 midterms, with Axios arguing that the shift represents "the biggest political story of our time."

“The Democrats really lost working-class people," Chris Formoso, a first-generation Cuban and father of four, told Fox News. "These people have absolutely lost their minds. There is no way we could vote for them, especially when Republicans have been more focused on the issues that matter."

Retired police officer, Hector Olmo, who lives in New Jersey, told Fox News he believes the Democratic Party’s troubles run even deeper as they embrace socialist ideas which is turning away Hispanic voters.

"It's just been a downward spiral," he said, citing skyrocketing inflation, record high gas prices, and rising crime rates in major cities across the United States. "There’s been no self-correction."

Bodega and Small Business Association president, Francisco Marte, told the Washington Times minority-owned small businesses are being affected by crime, especially in major cities like New York.

With the Association representing about 16,000 bodegas in New York City, Marte said rampant crime is driving Hispanics toward the Republican Party and all the inaction he sees from New Yorkers in Congress, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, isn’t slowing the exodus.

“She’s in favor of the criminals,” he said. “She’s in favor of the DA. She’s too liberal.”

According to Axios, Hispanics living on the U.S.-Mexico border are now more likely to favor tougher border security measures, in line with Republican Party policies.

As inflation continues to surge across the U.S., DaQuawn Bruce, USA Today opinion contributor, recently blasted it as “a hidden tax on poor people, which disproportionately includes people of color.”

The June report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported the inflation rate for Blacks is 0.2% higher than the national average and for Hispanics, it was roughly 0.6% higher.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Hispanic population reached 62.1 million in 2020. Accounting for 19% of all Americans, it is the nation’s second largest racial group, behind White Americans. In Wisconsin, 6.81% of the population, or 394,392 people, are Hispanic.
