President Donald J. Trump announced he is endorsing Brad Schimel, who is running against Susan Crawford for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The announcement was made in a March 21 post on Truth Social.
According to President Trump, Crawford, a Dane County Circuit Court judge, "has repeatedly given child molesters, rapists, women beaters, and domestic abusers 'light' sentences." He described the Wisconsin Supreme Court race as "very important" and urged Wisconsin voters "who believe in common sense" to vote early.
Republicans have criticized Crawford for her liberal affiliations, labeling her "dangerously liberal" due to financial backing from George Soros and support from activist groups, as reported by Fox News. Last month, Soros donated $1 million to support Democratic candidate Crawford’s campaign. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is also supporting Crawford. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is backing Schimel. Critics accuse Crawford of attempting to legislate from the bench, citing her past involvement in challenging voter ID laws.
