Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin has endorsed Susan Crawford for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, citing her commitment to reproductive freedom. The announcement was made in a press release published by Urban Milwaukee on February 3.

"Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin is proud to stand alongside a leader committed to reproductive freedom," said Tanya Atkinson, President of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin. "Judge Susan Crawford’s values align with the people of Wisconsin, and she is the right choice to be our next State Supreme Court Justice."

According to Planned Parenthood, Crawford has pledged to protect access to abortion and has experience as a prosecutor advocating for abortion rights. The organization highlighted her involvement in challenging Wisconsin statutes that restricted abortion access. They contrasted this with her opponent, Brad Schimel, stating he "has it made it clear" he opposes abortion.

Ballotpedia reports that Schimel will face Crawford in the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court election on April 1. The court currently holds a 4-3 liberal majority, but Justice Ann Walsh Bradley's retirement makes the seat competitive. A victory for Crawford would maintain the liberal majority.

Schimel serves as a judge on the Waukesha County Circuit Court and was previously the state Attorney General from 2015 to 2019 after being elected as a Republican. Prior to that role, he was the Waukesha County District Attorney from 2007 to 2015.

Crawford is currently a judge on the Dane County Circuit Court and was elected in 2018. Before becoming a judge, she worked as an assistant attorney general in the Wisconsin Department of Justice under state Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager.
