MADISON  — Gov. Tony Evers today delivered the Democratic Radio Address urging Republican lawmakers to take up his special session plan to address Wisconsin’s chronic workforce challenges, including helping strengthen high-need areas of our state’s workforce such as the healthcare and education sectors. More information on the governor’s special session plan is available here

Hey there, folks. Governor Tony Evers here.

Earlier this year, I proposed a comprehensive budget plan to address our state’s longstanding workforce challenges, support working families, and maintain our economic momentum.

Unfortunately, despite having a record budget surplus, Republicans in the Legislature rejected many of those efforts.

But thanks to my strategic line-item vetoes in the budget, I’ve ensured ample state resources are readily available for legislators to address the most pressing issues facing our state.

On September 20th, I’m calling a special session of the Legislature to complete their work on the budget and pass my comprehensive plan to address our state’s chronic workforce challenges.

My workforce plan makes targeted investments in high-need areas of our workforce, especially our healthcare and education workforces that we know have struggled for years.

These challenges have plagued our state for generations, and they will only continue holding our economy, our families, and our state back if Republican lawmakers don’t address this issue with the urgency it requires.

We’ve seen what can happen when we work together to address critical needs, reach bipartisan consensus and compromise, and put the people of Wisconsin first.

I’m optimistic that we can do this again.

Thank you.
