Eric Hovde, a U.S. Senate Candidate in Wisconsin, has stated that Mexican drug cartels are "benefiting from the Biden-Baldwin open border policy." Hovde made this comment on social media platform X on April 13.
"The only ones benefiting from the Biden-Baldwin open border policy are the drug and human trafficking cartels," said Eric D. Hovde, according to X. "It's time this crisis comes to an end."
In November 2023, lawmakers and law enforcement officials convened to discuss the infiltration of drug cartels into rural areas of Wisconsin, as reported by WKOW local news. According to police from Whitewater, Wisconsin, these cartels have generated approximately $250,000 through drug trafficking activities.

The Washington Free Beacon has reported an increase in Fentanyl seizures in Whitewater, suggesting a rise in cartel activity within the region. Law enforcement officials have traced funds back to these drug cartels, suggesting that some migrants might be engaging in legitimate day jobs during daylight hours and participating in drug sales after dark. In addition to the escalating drug issues, the community is also grappling with a housing shortage. U.S Representative Brian Steil (R-WI) emphasized the need for immigration law enforcement to the Free Beacon: "You need to actually enforce our immigration laws. The challenges that Whitewater is facing are ones communities around the country are facing. We can't just address the symptoms, we have to solve it by securing our border."
Hovde reiterated his commitment to "getting our border under control," citing it as one of his top priorities in a post on X dated March 25.
Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison according to his website, Eric Hovde is currently running for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin.
