Eric Hovde, a U.S. Senate candidate in Wisconsin, criticized the Biden Administration's policies at the southern border, describing them as "deadly" and accusing them of allowing illegal immigrants and drugs into the United States. Hovde shared his statement with The Sconi on June 12.

"The consequences of the Biden-Baldwin open borders policy are deadly," said Eric D. Hovde. "Instead of playing political games, we need to get serious about actually securing the border and stopping illegal immigrants and deadly drugs from entering our country."

A leaked federal document sent to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reportedly outlines President Biden's executive order to ban migrants from seeking asylum, according to the Washington Examiner. The document states that migrants from all but six countries will be released into the United States interior rather than deported. Migrants from Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will be removed, while other asylum-seeking migrants will be allowed entry and given documents ordering them to appear before a court for immigration proceedings.

According to the Washington Examiner, CBP agents in Southern California were instructed to allow migrants into the country rather than placing them into removal proceedings, which contradicts President Biden’s recent executive order. A CBP official told the Washington Examiner that CBP will continue to detail migrants "of all nationalities" for an expedited removal process, disregarding the leaked government document.

In April, CBP agents in the San Diego sector experienced 37,000 encounters with migrants, the most of all nine sectors, according to Border Report. "We ought to be able to manage the numbers that are coming across," said San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond. "One of the other things we are seeing in San Diego County is boat landings—boats just being beached up on our beaches—about four per week, and about a dozen people jump into a neighborhood. We don’t know who they are, where they are going or what their intentions are."

According to his website, Eric Hovde is an entrepreneur known for revitalizing community banks and starting multiple businesses. He co-founded The Hovde Foundation with his brother and established "Hovde Homes" globally for vulnerable children. Hovde graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

According to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), the number of illegal immigrants now "far exceeds" the number of legal migrants. Drug cartels are heavily invested in smuggling migrants across the border for payment. These cartels generate massive profits from smuggling activities—reportedly $30 million a day—which adds up to almost $1 billion per month. Smuggling fees currently run migrants roughly $8,000 but can increase due to factors such as distance; for instance, CIS indicates that migrants from different continents can pay "up to $50,000" in smuggling fees.
