Shortly before their annual dinner on October 1, the Badger Institute became aware of comments made by Rich Lowry, editor of National Review, during his appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show. Although initially scheduled as a speaker for the event, the Institute decided to replace him due to concerns over his remarks.

The organization expressed respect for Lowry and his publication, stating: "We have great respect for Rich Lowry and National Review. That’s why we had invited him to be our speaker." However, they felt unable to support what was said in the interview at that time.

In hindsight, after hearing from several respected individuals who reviewed the interview and concluded that Lowry's intentions were misunderstood, the president of the Badger Institute acknowledged a premature decision-making process. "Looking back, I realize that I, as president of the Badger Institute, moved too hastily and should instead have taken more time to allow full reflection on Rich Lowry’s excellent reputation and career. I regret that."

The statement emphasized no intention to damage Lowry's reputation or hinder his ability to engage in discussions about American politics and policy. Consequently, they extended an invitation for him to speak at a future event in Wisconsin.

It was later confirmed that Lowry would be visiting Wisconsin in December for another engagement. Despite this prior commitment, he accepted the Badger Institute's invitation. The details of this upcoming appearance are yet to be finalized.
