The Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) has expressed approval following the signing of three legislative bills by Governor Evers. These new laws are expected to positively impact the home building industry and residents in Wisconsin.

WBA President Jim Doering stated, "It has been well documented and discussed that Wisconsin is facing a critical shortage of housing for the workforce across the state." He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the WBA, other associations, legislators, and Governor Evers in addressing this issue.

Senate Bill 413 provides a framework for developers concerning improvements within highway setbacks and authorizes the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to approve subdivision plats. This bill aims to reduce barriers to building more housing. It was authored by Senator Cory Tomczk (R-Mosinee) and Representative Dave Murphy (R-Greenville).

Senate Bill 580 expands an existing program to include construction-related enhancements or improvements in technical education facilities or equipment. Previously, the grant was limited to manufacturing. The authors of this bill are Senator Rob Stafsholt (R-New Richmond) and Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View).

Senate Bill 585 introduces a small business tax credit for investments in workforce housing or childcare programs for eligible employees. The bill was authored by Senator Dan Feyen (R-Fond du Lac) and Representative Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake).

Doering commented on the diverse nature of these legislative measures: "While these pieces of legislation are vastly different from each other, easing development burdens, enhanced construction programs in schools, and housing investments for our workforce all have the ability to not only benefit the home."
