FOIA Request Sent to Florence County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Florence County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request, made by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about the methods being used to count ballots in the upcoming election.

The Sconi specifically requested a list of methods used for ballot counting. If manual counting is being employed, they also asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As part of their commitment to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, The Sconi underscored the importance of access to such public records. They stated that this information is essential for them to fulfill their professional responsibilities as a media organization.

In addition, The Sconi expressed their belief that they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public.

The Florence County Election Department has yet to respond publicly regarding this FOIA request. As we continue our mission of ensuring transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we eagerly await their response.
