A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the St. Croix County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request, made by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about the methods used for counting ballots in the upcoming elections.
In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we asked for details about whether the ballot counting process is manual or automated. If it is manual, we requested an estimate of the number of people who will be working on election night.
As part of our commitment to informing the public about their local government's operations, we believe that understanding how votes are counted is crucial. This information will provide insight into the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that every vote is accurately accounted for.
We also highlighted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., due to our role in gathering and disseminating news to the public.
The St. Croix County Election Department has yet to respond to our request. We look forward to sharing this information with our readers once it becomes available.
