The Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced extended hours for its customer service centers on March 31 and April 1, ahead of the state's Spring Election scheduled for Tuesday, April 1. These extended hours aim to accommodate those who need a photo ID, particularly new state residents, by keeping DMV service centers open until 6 p.m.

According to the DMV, voters without a Wisconsin driver license or ID can still obtain a Wisconsin ID in time for the election. Information about acceptable IDs for voting is available on the Wisconsin Elections Commission website. There is no separate "voter ID" specifically for voting, nor is a federally compliant REAL ID required.

To secure an official Wisconsin ID card, individuals must present documentation such as a birth certificate, proof of identity, and Wisconsin residency. Upon visiting a DMV center, they need to complete two forms. The DMV's website offers a locator to find nearby centers and to check wait times. Once processed, the photo ID document will be sent via overnight mail to be used at the polls. Voters also have the option of casting a provisional ballot until the photo ID document arrives.

The DMV provides ID cards for voting purposes free of charge to U.S. citizens. For inquiries about obtaining a voting ID, the DMV has set up a toll-free hotline at (844) 588-1069. Information regarding voter eligibility, poll locations, voter registration, and other election details can be accessed through the Wisconsin Elections Commission website at elections.wi.gov.
