A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Columbia County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request sought detailed information about the methods being used by the department to count ballots in the upcoming elections. Specifically, we asked for a list of these methods and if manual counting is being employed, an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
At The Sconi, we believe that access to public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As such, we requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
