Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital has awarded Holli Denton, RN, the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This accolade acknowledges her dedication and patient-focused care. The DAISY Foundation's program aims to honor the exceptional efforts nurses make daily.

DAISY Award recipients at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital are recognized for exceeding patient expectations with respect, compassion, and integrity. They generate enthusiasm and energy in their duties and significantly impact patients by listening with both ears and heart.

Denton works in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital. A grateful patient nominated her for the award, stating: "Holli went above and beyond the call of duty and gave me a ride home. Not wanting or allowing me to walk home under the influence of anesthesia after an outpatient procedure. A true angel of mercy! Thank you, Holli."

In celebration of her recognition, Denton and her colleagues enjoyed cinnamon rolls. This tradition honors Patrick Barnes' memory; he once requested cinnamon rolls for himself and his nurses during his hospital stay. The aroma serves as a reminder of nurses' special roles.

Denton received several tokens of appreciation: an honoree pin, certificate, daisies from Nature’s Riches, and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch by Shona Tribe artists from Africa.

The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by J. Patrick Barnes' family to honor his memory through recognizing skillful and compassionate nursing care during his hospitalization. Nominations can be made by patients, families, visitors, or colleagues. Winners are selected by a multi-disciplinary team.
