A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Green Lake County Election Department in Wisconsin regarding the list of candidates running for the upcoming spring election on February 5, 2025.
We at The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, are seeking detailed information about all candidates participating in the forthcoming elections. This information is being requested under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have expressed a preference for it to be provided in an electronic format.
The specific details we are requesting about each candidate include their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of that office; party affiliation; and all contact information such as address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
