FOIA Request to Washington County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have submitted a request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., for records related to the upcoming election.
Our request includes obtaining a list of all candidates running in the forthcoming election in an electronic format. We have asked for specific details about each candidate including their first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and their party affiliation.
In addition to this, we have also requested all contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization, our role is not just limited to gathering and reporting news but also holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill these professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from the Washington County Election Department regarding our request.
