A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Portage County Election Department in Wisconsin on February 5, 2025. The request, made by us at The Sconi, seeks comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The information requested includes basic details such as the candidates' first, middle and last names, as well as the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we have asked for the party affiliation of each candidate.
In an effort to provide thorough coverage of this important event, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is crucial for our work. We believe that this request will help us fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the Portage County Election Department and look forward to sharing this important information with our readers.
