FOIA Request Sent to Marinette County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

FOIA Request to Marinette County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Marinette County Election Department. The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and asked for details about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested this information preferably in an electronic format. The specifics we asked for include each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation; as well as their contact information including address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information.

We look forward to receiving this information from the Marinette County Election Department and will continue our work in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
