Rep. Gwen Moore, representing Wisconsin’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, has taken to social media to express her concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding Treasury Secretary Bessent and Elon Musk's involvement with sensitive information. In a series of tweets, Moore highlights issues related to access and accountability within the federal government.
On February 5, 2025, Rep. Gwen Moore tweeted about being denied access to meet with Treasury Secretary Bessent. She stated: "We were denied access to meet with Treasury Secretary Bessent. They snuck him in the same way they're stealing our data: the back door." She further claimed that Speaker Johnson admitted his own lack of knowledge regarding Elon Musk's actions with private data.
Later on February 5, Rep. Moore announced her upcoming appearance on CNN with Erin Burnett at 7 PM ET. She noted: "Joining @CNN @ErinBurnett at the top of the hour -- 7PM ET -- to discuss Elon Musk's unprecedented takeover of the federal government and my impromptu meeting with Speaker Johnson."
Continuing her criticism on February 6, Rep. Moore recounted confronting Speaker Johnson over what she described as Elon Musk's "hostile takeover" of the federal government. She emphasized: "Today I confronted Speaker Johnson over Elon Musk's hostile takeover of the federal government because the American people deserve answers about how their private data is being used." Moore expressed her determination by stating that if Republicans do not offer her a place at discussions, she would bring "her own chair."
