The vice president of CatholicVote said Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel is the "clear choice" in the April 1 election.

"Brad Schimel is the clear choice," wrote Joshua Mercer, CatholicVote vice president, in a blog post. "With a strong track record of defending life, religious freedom, and fair elections, he has consistently stood against the radical left’s agenda that threatens our Catholic teachings and values."

CatholicVote is a non-profit organization that engages Catholics in public policy and cultural issues.

In the blog post, Mercer wrote that Schimel opposed Planned Parenthood's efforts to prevent pro-life groups from offering alternatives to women seeking abortions. Mercer also stated that Schimel defended Wisconsin's voter ID law, which was challenged by the Obama administration.

Mercer also wrote that Schimel worked to protect religious organizations, including the Catholic Charities Bureau, from state efforts to limit their services based on their religious beliefs. Mercer stated that Schimel has been a consistent advocate for policies that align with Catholic values.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court race will determine a new justice for the state's highest court. The election is scheduled for April 1 and will fill a seat on the seven-member court. The outcome could influence decisions on state laws related to abortion, redistricting, and election procedures.

Schimel previously served as Wisconsin's attorney general from 2015 to 2019. Before that, he worked as the Waukesha County district attorney for nearly a decade. Schimel is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School and has experience handling cases involving criminal law and public safety.

Susan Crawford, endorsed by Planned Parenthood, is an attorney with experience in both private practice and public service. She previously served as chief legal counsel to former Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. Crawford has worked on cases involving labor law, healthcare, and environmental policy.
