The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is reminding students to apply for the upcoming Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2025.

Eligible applicants are those who will be seniors in the 2025-2026 school year. The application process requires students to submit an electronic form that includes a brief essay and a one-minute video detailing their current involvement in agriculture and future aspirations.

Governor Tony Evers has designated 2025 as the Year of the Kid in Wisconsin, focusing on creating opportunities for students to prepare for their futures. The council aims to highlight careers related to agriculture, share resources available for farmers, provide insights into agricultural policy development, and enhance networking opportunities for students.

Rylee Brattlie from Cambridge shared her experience: “I value the connections I have made with the advisors and mentors through the council. The Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council has educated me on the different career paths offered by agriculture."

The council conducts virtual meetings monthly during the school year, where members listen to presentations, engage in discussions, and connect with professionals within the agriculture industry. Members serve a one-year term on the council and receive a certificate upon completion.

Madison Wiese from Greenleaf commented: "The Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council has provided me with the opportunity to explore various different aspects of agriculture. Each month presents a new topic that will help you to expand your knowledge of Wisconsin agriculture."

DATCP aims to include 15 members from across Wisconsin on this council. For more information and access to the application, visit their website.
