Tom Tiffany, the representative for Wisconsin's District 7, has expressed concerns regarding the priorities of progressive leaders. He said that they "prioritize criminal aliens’ rights while neglecting justice for American families harmed by their actions."

"Far-left politicians have spent the past week flying around the world to scream about "due process" for illegal alien gangbangers," said Tiffany. "But they never say a word about the rights of countless American victims whose lives these career criminals have shattered."

In April 2025, Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano, an undocumented immigrant convicted in a 2021 drunk driving crash that resulted in the deaths of two teenagers in Seal Beach, California, was granted early release after serving only 3.5 years of a 10-year sentence. The Los Angeles Times reported that this decision led to public backlash and prompted Governor Gavin Newsom to announce cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for Ortega-Anguiano’s transfer to federal custody. Federal prosecutors subsequently filed new charges against him that could result in up to 20 years in prison, reigniting debates over sentencing policy and immigration enforcement.

According to a February 2024 report by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the state’s recidivism rate decreased to 41.9% for individuals released in fiscal year 2018–19. However, the American Immigration Council noted that national studies indicate undocumented immigrants are statistically less likely than U.S.-born citizens to commit violent crimes, which complicates assumptions about recidivism within this group.

ICE data cited by the New York Post in 2024 revealed that over 15,000 undocumented immigrants in the U.S. had been accused or convicted of homicide. This statistic has intensified policy debates concerning border security and sanctuary policies, with critics arguing that current laws may protect repeat immigration offenders from deportation.

Tiffany, a Republican who has represented Wisconsin’s 7th District since 2020 and serves on the House Judiciary Committee, focuses on immigration and crime-related legislation. According to his official House biography, he has sponsored bills supporting border enforcement and limiting benefits for undocumented immigrants, aligning with his platform on national security and rule of law.
