Howard Young Medical Center, a part of Aspirus, has recognized Sarah Martin, RN, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award acknowledges her dedication and patient-focused care. The DAISY Foundation's program aims to honor the exceptional efforts nurses put forth daily.

The award recipients at Howard Young Medical Center are acknowledged for exceeding patient expectations by offering services with respect, compassion, and integrity. They also generate enthusiasm while fulfilling their duties and make significant impacts by listening attentively.

Sarah Martin works in the Intensive Care Unit at Howard Young Medical Center. She was nominated for the award by a community member who expressed gratitude for her quick and selfless response that is credited with saving a life. The nomination stated: "My entire family is forever grateful for Sarah's immediate and selfless response that we credit with saving my mom's life."

Martin and her colleagues celebrated with cinnamon rolls, which commemorate Patrick Barnes' memory. Alongside this treat, she received an honoree pin, certificate, and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, crafted by artists from the Shona Tribe in Africa.

The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by J. Patrick Barnes' family to honor his memory and the care he received from nurses during his hospital stay. Nurses can be nominated by patients, families, visitors, or colleagues and are selected by a multi-disciplinary team.

The award recognizes outstanding nursing care provided daily. Aspirus DAISY Award winners embody core values such as compassion, accountability, collaboration, foresight, and joy.
