Dan O'Donnell, a radio host and political commentator for News/Talk 1130 WISN, said that Wisconsin Democrats have introduced a bill that removes the word "mother" 370 times, replacing it with terms such as "parent who gave birth" and "expectant person." The statement was made on the social media platform X.
"Democrats in the Wisconsin Legislature have introduced a new LGBTQ+ bill that crosses out the word "mother" no fewer than 370 times, replacing it with "parent who gave birth" and the phrase "pregnant mother" with "expectant person," said O'Donnell, Radio host and commentator. "This seems VERY intentional, as every single definition of "biological parent" is changed to "natural parent," but the rationale for this is never explained. This comes after Governor Evers attempted to replace the word "mother" with "inseminated person" and was universally mocked for it several months ago."
In February 2025, Governor Tony Evers proposed a biennial budget that includes changing the term "mother" to "inseminated person" in state law. According to The Washington Times, this change is intended to provide legal clarity in cases involving artificial insemination, especially for same-sex couples and individuals undergoing assisted reproductive procedures. Wisconsin Senate President Mary Felzkowski commented that Evers was attempting to "erase the concept of ’mom and dad’ altogether."
Representative Amanda Nedweski remarked on the new bill introduced by Democrats, noting it also uses "phrases like 'person’s breastfeeding' because apparently men can breastfeed." Nedweski mentioned that the bill spans 164 pages and replaces the word "mother" with various forms of "pregnant person" 370 times.
Josh Schoemann, a candidate for Wisconsin governor, expressed his views on the newly introduced bill: "This is crazy to be sure. But it’s also a sign Gov. Evers is completely out of ideas to improve Wisconsin. Tony’s gotta go."
