Wisconsin's Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has announced the appointment of Catherine Giljohann as its new General Counsel. The announcement was made by DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski.
“Attorney Giljohann's legal background and her experience serving in various senior government roles has uniquely prepared her to serve as DATCP's General Counsel," Romanski stated. “We are excited to have her join the DATCP team later this month."
Giljohann brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), where she served as Special Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel and Legal Advisor to past Commissioners. She also worked as a staff detailee to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and held the position of Deputy Associate Director for Regulatory Policy at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Expressing enthusiasm about her new role, Giljohann said, “I am excited to be returning home to Wisconsin to start the next chapter of my public service career with DATCP. I look forward to working with the DATCP team to support the important mission and work of this agency and partner with the citizens of Wisconsin to grow the economy by promoting quality food, healthy plants and animals, sound use of land and water resources, and a fair marketplace."
Giljohann is an alumna of both University of Wisconsin Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree, and University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her official start date at DATCP is June 30, 2025.
