Chadwick Elgersma has been appointed as the Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. In his new role, Mr. Elgersma expressed his commitment to public safety and law enforcement. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Wisconsin in this role,” he stated. He emphasized that his main goal is to ensure the safety of Wisconsin residents through rigorous enforcement of federal laws.

Mr. Elgersma outlined his priorities, which include protecting national security and addressing illegal immigration and drug trafficking. He also highlighted the importance of combating financial and violent crime, gang activity, child predators, and advocating for civil interests on behalf of the United States.

Raised in Waupun, Wisconsin, Mr. Elgersma graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 2005. His career began with the FBI as a Special Agent in 2006 before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin in 2017, becoming an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2019.

During his tenure as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Elgersma handled various criminal cases including interstate drug conspiracies, firearms offenses, Hobbs Act robberies, child exploitation cases, complex white-collar frauds, government program frauds, tax evasion, arson, and immigration-related offenses.

As U.S. Attorney, Mr. Elgersma will oversee federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving the United States within the Western District of Wisconsin's jurisdiction.
