Glenn Grothman, Representative of Wisconsin, announced that a newly passed House bill will mandate detailed reporting by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on border crossings by "special interest aliens" to enhance national security. This statement was made on X.

"President Biden's open border policies allowed thousands of potential national security threats to enter our country, including individuals from adversarial nations," said Glenn Sholes Grothman, U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. "House Republicans passed the Special Interest Alien Reporting Act to require DHS to report how many Special Interest Aliens are crossing our border illegally and where they're from. The American people deserve transparency and accountability to keep our country safe."

The Special Interest Alien Reporting Act (H.R. 4194), introduced in 2025, requires DHS to provide monthly reports to Congress concerning non-citizens identified as national security risks, or "special interest aliens." This initiative addresses concerns over immigration enforcement and perceived gaps in border security, as outlined in the official congressional summary.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, approximately 4,200 non-citizens were identified as "special interest aliens" at U.S. borders during fiscal year 2024. Of these individuals, around 65% were released pending further processing. These statistics are central to the new law's emphasis on increased transparency and reporting requirements.

Prior to this legislation, DHS reported only aggregated detention and removal numbers. The new act mandates detailed breakdowns by security category and location, enhancing transparency in U.S. border reporting. This change aligns U.S. practices more closely with public disclosures seen in Canada and the European Union (EU), according to RAND.

Grothman is a Republican U.S. Representative from Wisconsin currently serving his fifth term in the House. He previously served in the Wisconsin Senate and chairs the Immigration Reform Caucus. Known for advocating stronger border oversight and national security measures, Grothman authored H.R. 4194.
