Howard Young Medical Center Sleep Lab in Woodruff, Wisconsin, has maintained its accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for a decade. This milestone underscores the center's commitment to providing high-quality care for individuals with sleep disorders.

"The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Howard Young Medical Center Sleep Lab on continuing to meet the rigorous standards necessary to maintain accreditation for sleep services," stated AASM President Dr. Anita V. Shelgikar. "AASM accreditation is the gold standard in sleep care, reflecting a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered services that help people sleep better and live healthier lives."

The accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for various sleep-related issues such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.

Gary Nikolai, Manager at Aspirus Regional Sleep Disorders Center, advised individuals experiencing excessive tiredness or frequent snoring to consult their primary care provider about the benefits of a sleep study. "Our accredited sleep lab in Woodruff makes it convenient to get the care you need close to home—no need to travel to Rhinelander or Wausau," he said.

To maintain its five-year accreditation period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all AASM standards for professional health care. These include criteria related to personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. The center’s goals must also be clearly defined with plans for enhancing medical care quality within the community.

The AASM first accredited a sleep disorders center in 1977. Today there are over 2,300 AASM-accredited centers nationwide.

Howard Young Medical Center Sleep Lab is directed by James M. Cygan, MD, FAASM. It is located at 240 Maple St., Woodruff.

The AASM serves as a medical society for professionals in the field of sleep medicine and acts as the national accrediting body for sleep disorder centers across the United States.
