Jason Barnard, a 39-year-old resident of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing over 500 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The sentencing was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson following Barnard’s guilty plea on May 9, 2025.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin, Barnard sold methamphetamine and fentanyl to a confidential informant on two occasions in October 2024. Authorities arrested him while he was returning from his supplier in Minnesota. During a search of his vehicle, law enforcement officers found more than two kilograms of methamphetamine, 85 grams of fentanyl, and $3,696 in cash.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge Peterson addressed the impact of Barnard’s actions: “vast” quantities of drugs as a “very serious crime” that results in devastating consequences for the community.

The case was investigated by the West Central Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Remington prosecuted the case.
