Derrick Van Orden, Representative of Wisconsin, said that the new VA Home Loan Program Reform Act will assist veterans in avoiding foreclosure and maintaining their homes. This statement was made on X.

"President Trump has signed Rep. Van Orden's VA Home Loan Program Reform Act into law," said Derrick Francis Van Orden, U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. "This bill will provide critical relief to veterans who have fallen on hard times, helping them stay in their homes and avoid foreclosure."

The VA Home Loan Program Reform Act has recently progressed in Congress with bipartisan support. According to Military Times, the legislation aims to make VA home loans more accessible, streamline the application process, and introduce protections for veterans facing foreclosure.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, over 725,000 veterans utilized the VA home loan program in 2023. While veteran home foreclosure rates have slightly increased post-pandemic, they remain significantly below national averages.

Data from the Urban Institute indicates that veteran foreclosure rates decreased from 3.7% in 2012 to under 2% by 2018 following previous reforms to the VA loan program. These changes have reportedly led to improved outcomes with stronger protections.

Van Orden is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Wisconsin. He serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and is recognized for his work on veterans’ housing and mental health issues, as noted by Ballotpedia.
