U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said social media censorship is getting worse.
Johnson shared a screenshot on Twitter about videos that were removed from YouTube.
“Social media censorship just ratcheted up to a new level,” Johnson wrote in the tweet. “Google’s YouTube removed two videos of doctors testifying under oath at my US Senate hearing on early treatment of COVID. Another body blow to freedom of speech and expression. Very sad and scary. Where does this end?”
One of the physicians who testified was Dr. Pierre Kory, an associate professor of medicine at St. Luke’s Aurora Medical Center in Milwaukee. In the video that was removed, Kory spoke during a Dec. 8 U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing. He spoke on COVID-19 treatments.
“Apparently, the ‘doctors' at Google know more about practicing medicine than heroic doctors who have the courage and compassion to actually treat COVID patients and save lives,” Johnson tweeted.
Many Republicans have been calling out censorship. U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) recently said that Big Tech censored him after he challenged the presidential electors from Pennsylvania.
“It will get worse,” Hawley said in a New York Post commentary. “The tech titans have already booted dozens of conservatives off social media, and if they have their way, half the House Republican conference will be expelled from Congress. The corporate titans seem to believe that the only way to get a democracy to their liking is to eliminate all threats to the Democratic Party’s unified control of government.”
Hawley said he is not going to back down. He’ll still get his book published and he’ll continue to represent his constituents.
“The powerful see in the present moment an opportunity to consolidate their control over society and to squelch dissent,” Hawley said. “That means those who believe in the First Amendment and the fundamental principles of American liberty must now take a stand, while we still can.”
