Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) announced that over $22 million in grants from the Community Development Block is going to municipalities and critical infrastructure across the state.
The Community Development Block is a part of the WI DOA and is geared toward repairing and opening up opportunities in low to moderate income housing as seen by local needs.
"We're working hard to connect the dots to make sure our economy rebounds from #COVID19," Evers said in a post to his Twitter account on July 29. "This funding for critical infrastructure projects in communities across Wisconsin will continue supporting our state's recovery efforts."
Among the 25 different areas that received funding, Abbotsford will use the money to repair and expand their water systems. The goal of the Community Development Block program is to help low to medium income communities in Wisconsin with services like street repair, drainage systems and water and sewage systems. More water is needed in cities as the population grows.
Abbotsford's repairs are expected to cost $1.9 million.
Algoma, Ashland, Augusta, Boscobel, Clyman, Cobb, Crandon, Dorchester, Gratiot, Gresham, Mason, Mauston, Mondovi, Muscoda, Norwalk, Owen, Pittsville, Prentice, Rib Lake, South Wayne, Spooner, Suring, Viola and Winter are other cities expected to receive money from the program.
