President Joe Biden will visit Wisconsin next week to discuss new infrastructure money that is now available to clean rivers and repair roads and bridges.
According to Wisconsin Public Radio, Biden will visit Wednesday, March 2, the day after he is scheduled to deliver his first State of the Union Speech to Congress, with all members invited to the Capitol for the address. The report indicated that the president is expected to highlight the infrastructure law.
"The president and the first lady will travel to Superior, Wisconsin to discuss how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law delivers for the American people by rebuilding roads and bridges and creating good-paying, union jobs,” the White House said in a statement reported by Wisconsin Public Radio.
According to Wisconsin Public Radio, Biden will visit Superior more than a week after he visited Ohio to highlight a $1 billion investment in Great Lakes cleanup, with funding likely to spark the restoration of polluted sites in the Badger State, including the St. Louis River near Superior.
Wisconsin Public Radio also noted in its report that the St. Louis River was among 43 of the country’s most polluted sites along the Great Lakes 25 years ago, a result of contamination emanating from the industrial operations along the Twin Ports shoreline. The report noted that the site has been targeted as the second-largest polluted area on the Great Lakes.
Moreover, Biden’s visit also comes as tensions continue to mount in the wake of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine last week, leading to several rounds of sanctions against Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, by the United States and its NATO allies, according to the report. Biden, according to the report, has directed 7,000 troops to Germany to support NATO allies.
The report noted that additional details about the Bidens’ visit to Wisconsin would be released later.
