Former Baylor star receiver Tyquan Thornton is on the move.

The speedy wideout is now rumored to be on the Green Bay Packers' radar after a Scouting Combine showing ended with him posting the fastest time in the 40-yard dash (4.28) and being dubbed the Combine's fastest man.

"Baylor's Tyquan Thornton is one of the most polished 'pure speed' WR prospects in the last few drafts," CBS sports analyst Chris Trapasso posted on Twitter this week. "Runs good routes. Has some YAC capabilities and has good ball-tracking talent. Was just really held back by QB play in 2021."

With the Packers desperate to find new targets for MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers after losing last year's starters Davante Adams (signed with the Las Vegas Raiders) and Marquez Valdez-Scantling (signed with the Kansas City Chiefs) this offseason, head coach Matt LaFleur has taken notice. A report this week on SI.com placed Thornton in Green Bay for a pre-draft visit with the team.

With Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard now the only proven receivers on the roster, LaFleur and company could certainly use some of the team's draft capital (two first-round picks and four picks in the top 60) to move up higher in draft position and select a top receiver.

"You've got to look at the totality of that room and just the collective efforts that each individual brings to that room," LaFleur told SI.com. "Certainly, if you look at our roster right now, we definitely need to get some speed in that room. We need a legit guy that can take off the top of the coverage."

In four seasons at Baylor, Thornton caught 143 passes for 2,242 yards and 19 touchdowns. After playing in only six games in 2020, he bounced back last season to haul in 62 catches for 948 yards (15.3-yard average) and 10 touchdowns.

"I think he's matured," Baylor coach Dave Aranda told SI.com. "Ty has been, from the very beginning, blessed with great length and speed and athleticism. I think where Ty has really grown is his practice habits, his mindset, his attitude towards work. I think those things have really taken off, and I think there were some probably hard lessons in all that."

At the Combine, Thornton measured 6-foot-2 3/8 and 181 pounds, with a 36.5-inch vertical leap. He is now considered to be a mid-Day 3 pick.

The Packers are thought to also be considering Alabama star Jameson Williams, but he isn't expected to be able to take the field until later in the season after suffering a torn ACL during the national championship game.
