The Door County YMCA’s Heart of the Community Capital Campaign recently received a $2 million donation from a couple concerned that the timeline of the expansion project was to be adjusted because of increased material costs.
Jackie and Steve Kane donated to the campaign to keep the project on track, according to a Door County YMCA blog post.
“This gift allows us to complete the full vision and scope of this project,” CEO Heidi Erickson said in the blog. “Including, but not limited to: social gathering spaces, an expanded wellness center, new youth activity center, kitchen, outdoor classroom and increased accessibility for people of all ages and abilities.”
Jackie Kane has been on the Y’s board of directors for five years and is a member of its endowment board of trustees.
“We believe in investing in institutions that prepare the community for the future,” Jackie Kane said in the blog. “Giving of my time, talent and treasure is incredibly meaningful and fulfilling to me. I’m so happy to be able to do this for the Y.”
Community pledges and gifts will be sought for the $1.1 million that remains to be raised. To date, $8.8 million has been raised.
“We are very grateful for all of our generous donors who have contributed to our Heart of the Community Capital Campaign so that we can continue to serve our community now and into the future,” according to the YMCA’s Facebook page.
