Veteran MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers is hard at work making sure his Green Bay Packers are viewed as a finish product.
“I like production over potential,” Rodgers told reporters this week when speaking about his new group of receivers that features three rookie players. “We have some production. We have a lot of potential. I think that’s the most important thing for those guys. There are guys who’ve done some things in the league and there are guys that haven’t and they’re going to get opportunities.”
With former top target and All-Pro Devante Adams now in Las Vegas, Rodgers is doing all he can to keep the Packers’ high-powered offense humming along, hoping that veteran wideouts like Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb can help hasten the development of rookies Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure.
With Rodgers doing his best to get his teammates up to speed, the hope is that Coach Matt LaFleur’s versatile offense, which includes using tight ends and running backs as consistent pass catchers, will also go a long way in making their NFL transitions easier by allowing them to work from niche positions as they settle in.
The hope is that it will all give the appearance of a polished offense by the time the Packers take the field for their Sept. 11 season opener against the host Minnesota Vikings.
