The Walworth County Register of Deeds office has received notice of counterfeit stamps circulating in Wisconsin. According to the United States Postal Inspection Service, “the number of counterfeit stamps being sold from online platforms has escalated.” The phony stamps are generally sold in bulk quantities at a significant discount on social media marketplaces, e-commerce sites via third-party vendors, and other websites. To ensure that you’re purchasing genuine USPS stamps, the Postal Inspection Service recommends purchasing stamps from Approved Postal Providers, which can include legitimate “big box” or warehouse retailers that do provide small discounts on stamps, or directly from your local Post Office.
