The Sconi

The cost of ham in Wisconsin has increased by 293% since 2020.

That’s according to an analysis of Meijer grocery ads by The Sconi.

A one pound spiral sliced ham half at the supermarket chain cost $0.89 in April 2020, which is $2.60 less than the $3.49/lb cost of the same ham in April 2024. 

The analysis also found a 303% price increase for asparagus, a 100% increase in the price of potato chips, and a 114% increase in the price of a bone-in rib roast. 

Those numbers outpace the supposed 2.2% inflation rate for food for the last year, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). 

Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Meijer opened its first store in Wisconsin in 2015, marking its expansion into the state. As of January 2022, there are 6 Meijer locations spread across Wisconsin, serving communities with a range of groceries, household goods, and other essentials.

Meijer was rated as the most popular grocery store in Wisconsin in a November 2023 analysis by Vinepair.
