Eric Hovde, a U.S. Senate candidate in Wisconsin, stated that current border policies have "allowed criminals and even terrorists to enter our country illegally." Hovde made this statement to the Sconi on June 26.

"The Baldwin-Biden open borders are wreaking havoc on the safety of people in Wisconsin and across the country," said Eric D. Hovde. "It is unconscionable that Sen. Baldwin supports the open borders that have led to so many overdoses and have allowed criminals and even terrorists to enter our country illegally."

Two illegal immigrants from Venezuela were charged with the murder of a 12-year-old girl, Jocelyn Nungaray, in Texas, according to Fox News. Both men had been apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol at the time of their crossing and were subsequently released into the interior of the country. Additionally, Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother, was allegedly raped and murdered by Victor Martin Hernandez on August 5, 2023. Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, was arrested in June 2024 for her murder. He allegedly entered the United States after murdering a woman in El Salvador.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the U.S. Border Patrol has arrested 10,337 individuals with existing criminal convictions who were illegally crossing to date in fiscal year 2024.

The Hovde campaign's website describes the border crisis as a "great risk" for the United States. "Our laws need to be enforced and our borders strengthened if we want to keep our streets safe and protect the lives of U.S. citizens and migrants," said Hovde's campaign.

Hovde is running for the U.S. Senate seat in Wisconsin.
