A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Outagamie County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request, filed by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks detailed information about the methods being used to count ballots in the upcoming election.

The request specifically asks for a list of methods employed for ballot counting. If any ballots are being manually counted, The Sconi has also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, we at The Sconi believe in the importance of transparency and accountability from public institutions. Access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include providing accurate information to the public and holding public institutions accountable.

In light of our role as news disseminators, we have requested a fee waiver for this information under the provisions of the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., citing our status as media professionals.

We eagerly await a response from the Outagamie County Election Department and will continue our efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in local government affairs.
