A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Shawano County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request, filed by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about the methods being used for ballot counting in the upcoming elections.
Specifically, we asked for a list of methods they are using to count ballots. If any of these methods involve manual counting, we also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night. This information is critical as it provides insight into the voting process and helps ensure transparency and accountability in our electoral system.
As a media organization committed to reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us at The Sconi. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We eagerly await the response from Shawano County Election Department and will continue to work tirelessly towards providing our readers with accurate and timely information regarding local governmental affairs.
